I have a new theory ... don't know why I haven't thought of this before.
In mid-19th century England, the average life expectancy was around 40yrs for men, 42yrs for women. So you were only expected to endure married life for a couple of decades if you married at the age of 20.
Roll on to the early 21st century and it's sky-rocketed to around the 80yrs mark. Husbands and wives are expected to get on for nearly 3 times the length of time during their married lives. That's not humanly possible.
And the bad news is, it's only going to get longer.
